The Most Ridiculous (Tech) Item of the Day

If Bill O'Reilly did a show about technology, I'm sure this uber-intelligent post on the ZDNet.com forums would get a mention:

Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without [the Microsoft Windows Operating System running] underneath it, at all? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services?

That sounds preposterous to me.

...

Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.

I think you need to re-examine your assumptions.

Wow. Talk about "preposterous" and "re-examine your assumptions".

In his full rant, he even implies Apple moved to Intel so they could use Windows as a base operating system. How do you manage to know what a "boot disk" and "drivers" are without understanding operating systems other than Microsoft Windows exist?! If you showed this guy BeOS and VMS I honestly wonder if he might mysteriously implode.

In any event, this gave me a very hearty laugh.
